According to estimates, in 2017 there were more than one billion credit cards in the US alone. That’s more than three cards for every man, woman, and child in the country.
In a crowded market, credit card providers are offering benefits to entice consumers to choose their cards. But how do you choose the best credit card, and decide if Amex has the one for you?
American Express has long had a reputation for being a status symbol as much as a financial instrument. And part of their appeal is the great perks and rewards that they offer.
So read on as we take a quick look at the American Express Business Platinum card.
Who Is It For?
First and foremost, this is a business card. Much like startup business loans, these cards are tailored for businesses, so personal applicants need not apply.
The main focus of this card is business people who travel regularly and use their card for a lot of business expenses. It is particularly aimed at those who are able to take advantage of the premium rewards that they offer, many of which are travel-related.
How Many Points Can You Earn?
For most purchases, you earn one point for every dollar spent.
But if you book flights and prepaid hotels through American Express’ own travel company, you earn five points for each dollar spent. You also have the option to preselect your airline of choice; if you use your reward points to book flights with this airline, you will get 35% of them back.
As a welcome offer, if you make $20,000 of purchases in the first three months, you will earn an additional 75,000 points.
How Do You Redeem Your Points?
You can use your points to shop on Amazon, to pay for charges on your accounts, or even pay for Uber rides. But all these options will value your points at a cent or less.
To make the most from your points, you should transfer them to one of the partner hotels or airlines. You can then use them towards earning free flights or accommodation, giving you far more value per point.
What Are the Perks?
For travelers, you have free access to a wide range of airport lounges, including American Express’ own Centurion lounges.
These allow you to pass the time before your flight in style, enjoying fine food and premium drinks. You also have access to semi-private workspaces if you need to get on with business.
The card also grants you gold status with hotel chains such as Hilton and Marriott. This gives additional benefits when staying in these hotels such as room upgrades and late checkouts.
There are other perks including extended warranties and free access to WeWork locations worldwide.
