Dealing with a Stolen Credit Card
When you realize your credit card is stolen, you can only take a minute to experience that sinking feeling. And then you have to get to work to protect yourself and your credit.

Lock Your Card
If you have an app that allows you to lock your credit card — immediately shutting down access to your card will keep the thieves from spending more of your money.

Report Your Card Stolen and Cancel It
Whether your card was lost or stolen, you call the same number and ask your card provider to cancel it right away. They are likely to ask you a few questions before they cancel your credit card to ensure that you are indeed who you say you are.
Make sure you remember any password, security questions or codes you set up for your account security or you may not be able to cancel your card.
Look at Your Credit Card Activity Online
If you notice that your card is stolen, you need to go to your credit card account online. Look at your account activity and see if there is anything you don’t recognize.
If you see transactions you don’t recognize, like maybe a payment to a payday loan, speak to anyone in your house that might have access to your card. Check to see if they used your card to make these purchases before you report them as fraudulent.
If you do see transactions that are fraudulent, you need to let your credit card company know right away.
Depending on who your credit card provider is, they will remove these transactions as soon as they finish their investigation. Some companies take less time to investigate the transactions and refund your money than others. You will need to check your credit card company’s policy to see how long it will take.
Getting a New Card
Now that you’ve canceled your card and noted any fraudulent charges on your account, your credit card provider will issue a new credit card to you.
Often it takes up to 7 to 10 days to get the new credit card.
